Getting started

Everything below happens in the browser. There is nothing to install.

1. Sign up

Press Start free and enter your email address. We send you a link; there is no password. The page the link opens shows a code: check it matches the code on the page where you signed up, then confirm. A link works once, for 15 minutes.

Signing up gives you an organization of your own, with you as its owner.

2. Make your first site

The first screen asks how you want to start:

• A template. Pick one of the fifteen and give the site a name. See Templates.
• A description. Write a few sentences about the business: what it is, who it serves, and facts such as hours, prices and how to get in touch. AI writes the first draft, then asks you to check the name, tagline, colours and fonts before the site is built. Facts it did not have are listed and left out, not invented.
• A Next.js repository you already have. Connect GitHub, pick the repository and read its editability report first. See Developers.

While the site is made, a progress panel shows each step: creating its repository, starting a workspace, writing the pages, installing what the site needs and saving it to GitHub.

3. Edit it

Press Open the editor. The editor runs in its own workspace and opens in your browser tab. A Get started checklist walks you through five steps: change some words, make it yours, add a section, share a preview, and go live. See Editing.

Your work is saved as you go. The workspace stops after ten minutes without an open editor tab; opening the editor again starts it where you left off.

4. Share a preview, then go live

A preview gets its own address on pages.dev that you can send to anyone. Going live puts the site on its public address, and you can connect your own domain. See Publishing.

5. Invite your team

Owners invite people from the Members tab. Invited people sign in with the address you invited and accept. Each member has a role:

• Owner: everything, including members.
• Developer: sites, code, collections and content.
• Designer: the canvas and content.
• Editor: content only.

The app's own Get started tab shows which of these steps your organization has done.
